It seems that every evangelical blogger has linked to this article and given their (usually favorable) opinion. So, I guess I have to follow the crowd on this one. Michael Spence, aka the Internet Monk, believes that we are on the brink of the collapse of Evangelicalism as we know it. He does have hope for the Christian faith in a house church movement as well as the growth of the Charismatic movement.
I’m not as pessimistic as Mr. Spencer as regards modern Evangelicalism though I do share his overall concerns. Those of us in the Church in America need to get back to the Gospel and away from the materialism and junk that has built up around our faith over the years. It is certainly very disturbing to see so many young people leaving the Church and to see that the Church has so little effect in society. The fix is not programs but Jesus, plain and simple. When individuals truly understand the Gospel, then we can work in community to make a difference in our world. Go read the article – it’s good.
By the way, I’ve got up a book review and will be doing a giveaway on Thursday, so go check that out, too!!
