Works for Me Wednesday - November 5, 2008

The theme for this week's WFMW is toys that hold their value. I have two recommendations:

1. Legos - My 10 year old son and 13 year old daughter (yes, you read that correctly) still love to play with Legos. In fact, today, Wild Man took out the Legos and started playing army with the little people. It was a kind of medieval/Mars Mission amalgamation. Yes, it's unusual, but that's Wild Man's imagination! If they get interested, they can even move on to Lego robotic toys. Oh, and Wild Man also likes to play Lego chess.

2. Stuffed animals - This was my kids' response when I asked them for their help on this postSANY0942. They both have tons of stuffed animals, and they get played with constantly. Wild Man, in particular, has all kinds of stories going on with his animals. Monkey is a particular favorite. Monkey has been known to get Wild Man into some trouble at times, given his desire to "fly" all over the place, but we love him anyway. Here is a picture Wild Man took of his stuffed animals in front of his closet door last week. Note the lemur hanging from the door handle. Ga'hoole Girl keeps her stuffed animals on her top bunk. She has a particular affinity for owls, having a snowy owl, barn owl, and screech owl, among others. Several of their favorite stuffed animals are almost as old as they are. Talk about holding their value!

I found it interesting that stuffed animals were on your list. That was something I was thinking about mentioning to be something my kids hardly ever played with (but that took a lot of room). However my 2 year old has started to enjoy them quite a bit (But my other 3 have played with them only rarely.) so I didn't say that. It just shows that every child/family is different.
My kids do love legos though and I remember playing with them when I was older too.

I get tired of stuffed animals, but really my daughter has played with them so much over the years. She puts American Girl clothes on some of them.
