Thankful Thursday - October 2

Today, my kids and I did a lot of cooking. Wild Man made french bread while Ga'hoole Girl made turkey and andouille gumbo. This reminds me of all the cooking that I did with my mom as I was growing up. So, today, I am thankful for all the practical stuff my mom taught me:
  • Cooking - from everyday stuff like spaghetti to fancy meals including soups and desserts.
  • Housekeeping - you might not know it from seeing my house, buy my mom taught me to be organized and value having a clean home. (Of course, you've read how I've had to balance my perfectionism in housekeeping with reality, but I have to thank Mom for my ability to even clean a house in the first place.)
  • Parties - my mom and I can throw a mean party. Of course, my mom has more energy than one woman should be allowed to have, but I do marvel at her ability to get the house cleaned, the food cooked, and be completely dressed including hair and makeup by the time the first guest arrives. I can't get it all done like she can, but I do remember the fun we used to have in the kitchen - not to mention the amazing food.
  • Laundry - I was not one of the kids at college who freaked out about how to wash clothes the first month. My mom made sure I knew how to sort, wash, dry, and even iron clothes.

So, thanks, Mom! And, thank you God for a Mom who made sure to get me ready to face the big, bad world. And help me to get my own kids ready to make their mark on the world.

Check out Thankful Thursday to see what others are Thanking God for today.

Me 2. I'm thankful that I was taught how to cook, clean and do laundry. Those things take enough energy as it is, I don't know how I'd manage if I had not been shown!

I'm thankful for new friends in the blogosphere tonight.

I want to be like your mom someday. I want my children to say, because of her I know ____. What a blessing you have in her.

Blessings, Whitney

Well, shoot. Now I want gumbo. With real sausage (impossible to get here due to a ban on pork products). Thanks alot!! LOL!!

You are right. We should be more grateful for the homemaking skills our mothers taughts us. Especially since so many women of our mothers' generation were the first "working women" and trying to juggle it all. They are great women and we should be so grateful to them!
